This week we want to talk about multi-functional rooms, spaces that have different applications or uses in the same area. Places that can also be used by people with different ages and with different purposes in the same open space.
To begin designing this type of rooms, it is important to know what kind of use you want to give it and know who will use it. This will condition us at the moment to choose materials and furniture. Once decided, we have to do the most functional and efficient distribution of the area with for all those who are going to enjoy it. The available space must be optimized and the furniture and elements that are really necessary must be placed.
Lightweight, simple and neutral materials that are more easily to modify if we want to change its function. Depending on who is directed, we can use some materials or others in both flooring, wall coverings and furniture. As we are designing a room destined to collect different utilities, we must have also a good organization. For this, storage space is essential: customized shelving, baskets, sideboards… will help us to keep the space organized.

The best choice for the walls are neutral and peaceful colors with which we will win in amplitude and luminosity in the room. In the furniture and accessories we will add touches of color and creativity, always following the style that you want to give the house. If the space is for children, we will use lives and vibrant colors with what we will turn the activity into a game for children. If you are looking for a sober style, the fun touch will be introduced through rugs with geometric designs and different colors, contrast of textils or prints, abstract forms, and others.
In The Room Studio we like that this type of rooms are timeless places where we do not tire of spending time there. You can add daring elements through complements that are easy to change according with the trends.
To finish, we will leave you some multi-functional rooms that we have developed in some of our projects. Each one of them always according to the style of the house and the needs of the clients. We hope you will be inspired and helped when it comes to designing and decorating your recreational rooms!
