New exhibition by Miguel Soler-Roig

15.05.2019

From May 1 to October 30, 2019, The Room Studio hosts the latest exhibition by Miguel Soler – Roig. See you at the opening next Thursday May 23 at 19:00, where we can enjoy the best wine by Recaredo and a meticulous selection of chocolates Ludomar Txokolatl Group.

The photographer exhibits once again at the Espai Paris of The Room Studio to present his new work ‘Out of Silence‘, with a total of 11 pieces. At the end of the summer of 2016, Miguel Soler-Roig traveled to one of the most inaccessible regions of Tibet to hear the first words of a Lama who kept a vow of silence for three years. In Oriental culture they are much more aware of the need to practice the inner gaze. Silence allows to silence the mind and discover the essence that shapes us.

The artist accompanied the Lama in his career, sharing a spiritual life manifested in each small action and in the way of relating to the world. Through various photographs he shows us his daily occupations – prayers, repetition of mantras, meditations, visits to the temple – and his immediate surroundings: the mysticism of the landscapes of Dzogchen in the ancient Kingdom of Kham, the humility and commitment of his people and the idiosyncrasy of a culture linked to the merely transcendental. The images express this philosophy through symbols and visual metaphors. Stillness and darkness refer to silence, light and movement upon awakening, the path to the course of learning.

The keys present in the photographs culminate in an enveloping form in the videographic work. A curtain of smoke gives way to the chants of the Lama singing the first words of a mantra. The transit from darkness to light is equated with the experimentation of one of the Bards or “intermediate states”: the first or Chikhai Bardo. This phase is what happens at the moment of death, when consciousness withdraws from the senses; one no longer hears or sees anything, everything becomes blurred until it vanishes. The parchment that accompanies it constitutes his first testimony after having been purified in the doctrine of silence. The spontaneity and freshness of its most immediate inspiration reflected on paper. Miguel Soler-Roig proposes an experience to feel peace and the profound mysticism of the entire photographic series.

You can find the exhibition in our Gallery Store of 171 Paris Street to enjoy the collection ‘Out of Silence‘, we are waiting for you!
