In today’s post we are going yo talk about how to design terraces and yards in our homes, those perfect hiding places to spend long summer days with our family and friends.

To start designing these spaces, it is essential to know the location of the home: the light during the day, the temperature, the sun exposure… There are some factors to be taken into account at the time to choose materials, textiles or outdoor furniture. Your location in the house will also be important, it will influence the function that we are going to give it and the people who will use it.

We will start talking about the terraces, they are small corners that we find in the middle of the city and where we can take refuge in the open air. The size of the terrace will determine the type of pieces that we will take. For example, if you have a large terrace we choose a selection of large seats and side tables to complete the space. If on the opposite the space is narrower, you can choose a long bench and an auxiliary stool that can serve as support. Regarding materials, we are governed by choices that bring naturalness to the environment: light woods, cotton, wild linen, and others. A timeless and neutral furniture that incorporates colorful and vibrant elements such as cushions or rugs, as well as wicker baskets and different patterns. Regarding lighting, we prefer a warm light using floor lamps and candles creating an intimate space. The exotic touch will be given by the different plants with big leaves that will make us feel far from the big city.

Regarding the yards, in the case of more spacious areas we can give them more functionalities and styles. The pavement will allow us to recreate different scenes throughout the area, with the use of different materials we can obtain small scenes that mark a different function to the next space. Wood and stone are highly demanded materials due to their natural appearance and resistance to external factors. Another option that is valued is the grass adding a green and wild touch to the yard, allowing us to feel in touch with nature. The colors used are usually more earthy mixing with the environment and incorporating touches of different colors, this effect allows to create a contrast that highlights the selected pieces. It is important to get comfortable places where you can enjoy.
